Borobudur Temple

Borobudur Temple

Borobudur is one of the most well-known temples in the world. Located 45 kilometers northwest of Yogyakarta, well know as the UNESCO heritage sites. It was constructed in the eighth century. It rises in seven terraces, each smaller than the one below it, and stands magnificently on a hill overlooking verdant meadows and far-off hills.

At forty meters above the floor, the Great Stupa is the highest point. Regarded as the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of Buddhist reliefs, the base relief sculptures on the walls are impressive. Complete restoration has now been done on the monument, which was constructed in the eighth century and ‘found’ by Raffles in 1817.
